Just a side note

Hi,
Adding on to my previous post, photography is not all about the camera. It is the art, it is the composing. Technology is only an item that helps you to achieve what you want easier. In photography, you can have the best camera, the best speedlight, the best lens and so on. But if you do not know how to compose a picture, the pictures you take will suck. It is the composing that matters and also the technique and skill. But most importantly, it is the composing. So work on your artistic composing instead of cameras. Actually any kind of camera will do, point-and-shoot, disposable camera or DSLRs.

Do not keep changing cameras because of the technology. My dad used the D50 for like 6-7 years before changing to his S5 pro. Now I handle the D50. But do you see any defects or suck photos I posted? If there is, it is probably me, not the camera. So just get a camera you feel comfortable with and work on your composing. Do not change untill you think you are ready for it.

My Camera

Hi,
I think as a beginner on photography blogging, I should start off with the most most basic. My Camera.

Actually I think I have no rights to affect your choiced camera but I'm just writing this as a tip for beginners buying a camera. I do have the little experience. You know, those bit. So ya, just a disclaimer: Do not blame me for anything. I treat this as a hobby. Serious hobby? Maybe... So lets start. (Just to say, I might not be talking about pro cameras like D3, D2x, 1D this sort of camera. Cos people buying this camera are probably pros who don't need tips)

What's important in picking a camera? Many people ask this question. It is actually very subjective. Depends on what you are buying it for. Just ask yourself this question. What will you be using your camera for. Some sports photographer use fast cameras like Nikon D3, Nikon D300 or Canon D1...just to name a few.

For my dad and I, we take landscape portraits and family portraits. So we could zoom down our search for a camera from so many of them. Most importantly for us, it is the colour, not the speed. For colour it is the CCD. After a long search, like a few weeks, we decided on this camera...

The fujifilm S5 pro camera!! It has fantastic colour, one of the best and unrivalled by Nikon d300/d2x.

Many think like Fujifilm and then just have a bias judgement about the camera. But as a user together with my dad, I have discovered the prowess of it. Yes, prowess. The colour is super because it uses a super CCD. But people might ask, what about the built. The built is excellent!! And it is actually a twin of Nikon's D200 just that it has a super CCD.(Its mount is a Nikon F-mount) This camera feels very...very...sturdy, strong, powerful and pro.

The Strengths of this camera: Basically, the worth is see in this camera is its superb colour and excellent built.

Weakness: It is probably the speed. At 3fps, it is easily rivalled by cameras of its range. But I said depends on your use.

Lets compare some pictures:

This is a picture taken on a Nikon D300 with a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens.

Just compare the skin colour, it is so obvious that the S5 pro is better in colour.

It is quite a good choice for people who shoot portraits. and the price is tha price of entry level Nikon cameras! Now the price is S$1699 for the S5 pro body and the sigma 18mm-200mm lens.

So most importantly, know what you want. Don't just go random and listen to salesman entirely. Do your research, you know, like check out with experts and read online reviews, sample pictures...One place I can recommend is Camera Hospital in Singapore, around Bencoolen Street. It is from there that I learnt about the S5 pro.

Hope you will have a better idea of buying a camera after this.
