Why megapixels don't matter

Sorry people, I haven't been posting for a long time because I don't know what to post. But after some observation, I realised that a potential post could be one about megapixels.

Nowadays. I realise those advetisers and camera makers keep coming up with cameras with higher megapixel and then advertise it till the camera is like some god and then sell it for a high price. Although people who know their stuff will not be decieved, the majority of the population is still blinded by megapixels and just go on with their buy.

To educate those who think megapixels are important:





Look at this image above, this are the sensor sizes of various DSLRs and compact cameras. Sorry for pro-compact people, but the average size of the CCD sensor of compact cameras are in the last line as you can see. So minute.

So what if you give a sensor that is so small 14 megapixels? What can you get? And again, so what if the sensor has little megapixels? Their quality would turn out about the same. Hence, why bother so much about the megapixels a compact camera have?

Does it look like a 2.7 megapixel photo? Can a 14.7 megapixel compact camera do this?

A new effect

Hi,

Havent post for a long time. This time I post cos I discovered a new effect.

This photo is not edited. I could get this effect because of the zooming method.

Steps

1. place your camera on a stable place (e.g. tripod, table top)

2. Focus on the object you are shooting. In my case, its a stapler

3. Set the shutter speed to 1/1 sec or at least 1/2 sec.

4. Set the zoom on your lens at any focal length you like. (Adjust to the amount of the effect you want)

5. Use one hand to click the shutter trigger. Your other hand should be zooming out the lens.

You should get this effect.

For me, I was using the sigma 28mm-70mm f/2.8 lens. I went to 70mm click the shutter trigger and at the same time, I zoomed out to 28mm.

Shooting Moon!

Hi,

I shot my first moon photo yesterday!!! I spent about 30 mins perfecting the shot through settings, position and so on.

Here's the picture..

I used my Sigma 70mm-200mm constant f/2.8 lens oh, and plus a Sigma 2x teleconverter.

Fujifilm S5 pro at 1/400 sec, ISO 200, f/5.6, 300mm

I had to play with the shutter speed to get this photo.

Too bad I missed the eclipse. Sigh....

You can see the shaking rite?

Too bad, I left the camera on timer-mode to prevent shaking liao. But at 300mm, with the wind going at quite a speed, there's bound to be shaking visible.

Water-marking

Hi,

I just found out how to watermark my photographs. I'm not sure if it really works but it looks cool and protects my pics. Try to beat it. If you beat it, tell me I would like to improve the watermarking. Thanx :D

New edition! The nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens!

Today I went with dad to sim lim to get this lens...
Nikon 50mm f/1.8 Af
This lens is perfect for portrait shots. The object or person in your photograph totally stands out. It is super cool!!
And who says all cool lens is expensive? My favourite lens are the Nikon 50mm f/1.8, the Nikon 18-55mm kit lens and the sigma 70-200mm f/2.8. I like the two nikon lens for their usefulness and userfriendly-ness. But i love the sigma 70-200 for the sharp images and built. Despite this one being the expensive one...But still! 2 out of my 3 favourite lens are not that expensive!
Guess the price of the lens my dad bought today?
$177!!!
Isn't that quite affordable for a Nikon f/1.8 lens? I find it is pretty affordable.
However, for every large apecture lens the problem is that it might be too bright or over-exposed. So have to play with white-balence(WB) liao.
